HOV Lanes
What is an HOV lane?
A New Jersey Turnpike lane set aside for certain hours of the day for use only by high-occupancy and fuel-efficient vehicles.
Where are they located?
They are the far-left lanes of the outer roadways between Interchanges 11 and 14. They are marked by a diamond on the pavement. The HOV lanes are also delineated by overhead signage. When there is inclement weather, the markings on the roadway may not be as visible. The overhead signage is helpful in those cases.
When are the HOV rules in effect?
Northbound on weekdays from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m., southbound on weekdays from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
Who is allowed to use the HOV lanes?
The HOV lanes are open to buses, motorcycles and vehicles with hybrid engines regardless of number of passengers, and passenger cars carrying three or more people.
