New E-ZPass Only exit 125 from southbound Parkway opens in Sayreville

The new E-ZPass Only exit connecting the southbound Garden State Parkway to Chevalier Avenue and Main Street Extension in Sayreville is now open to traffic. The first vehicle used the exit at about 6:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 9, 2017.

The new exit ramp is located just before the Raritan South Toll Plaza. Drivers who normally pay a toll at Raritan South now pay on the ramp instead if they choose to use the new exit.  Drivers who do not use the new exit simply continue through the Raritan South Toll Plaza and pay the same toll they paid before the new ramp opened.

Only drivers with a valid E-ZPass account are able to use the new exit ramp.  Drivers destined for Sayreville who do not have an E-ZPass account should go through the Raritan South Toll Plaza and exit the southbound Parkway onto Main Street at Exit 124.

The new exit ramp is part of a larger set of improvements being made at Interchange 125 in order to accommodate existing traffic and future growth resulting from the development of the Raritan River waterfront. In addition to the new southbound exit, the project includes widening the bridges that carry the mainline of the Parkway over Chevalier Avenue, improving local roads in the vicinity, adding a northbound Parkway entrance ramp, and reconfiguring an existing southbound entrance ramp. Both entrance ramps will be untolled.

Work on the project is well underway.  The contract was awarded to a joint venture of A. Servidone Inc. and B. Anthony Construction Corp. in April 2016, and construction started the following month. Although work on the new southbound exit ramp is complete, construction on other elements of the project will continue until the fall of 2019.
