The Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension of the New Jersey Turnpike will be reduced to one lane of traffic in each direction this weekend as a contractor makes repairs to several bridge decks.
The lanes will close at about 9 p.m. Friday, April 21, and reopen by around 5 a.m. Monday, April 24.
The right lane of the eastbound Extension will be closed from the Vincent R. Casciano Jr. Bridge over Newark Bay to west of Interchange 14B; the right lane of the westbound Extension will be closed from west of Interchange 14 B to east of the Casciano Bridge.
Drivers who plan to travel on the Extension this weekend are encouraged to allow extra time and to check traffic conditions by calling 511 from a hands-free device or by downloading the SafeTripNJ app. Live views of the Extension are available on the Traffic Cameras page at www.njta.gov.
The work is being done under a $17.8 million contract awarded in December 2022 to Joseph M. Sanzari Inc. for repairs to 41 bridges on the northern portion of the Turnpike. The work under the contract generally includes deck repairs, joint repairs, replacement of asphalt wearing surface, bearing replacement, and miscellaneous substructure repairs.
