The Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension bridge deck reconstruction project that was scheduled to begin May 6th has been postponed until May 20th in order to give motorists additional time to plan alternate commutes.
Once construction begins, the right shoulder will not be available as a third eastbound travel lane. Significant rush-hour delays are expected northbound on the mainline of the New Jersey Turnpike between interchanges 11 and 14, eastbound on the Extension between interchanges 14 and 14A, and eastbound on Interstate 78 approaching the Turnpike.
Employers and commuters are encouraged to avoid the delays by adopting alternate commuting strategies, including adjusting their travel times to avoid peak morning and evening when congestion will be most significant, telecommuting or working at other sites their employers might have available, carpooling, taking alternate routes, or switching to public transit.
