The eastbound Newark Bay-Hudson County Extension of the New Jersey Turnpike has reopened to traffic.
The roadway was closed for emergency repairs Wednesday morning between Interchanges 14 and 14A after a contractor working in the area discovered that the bearings between the bridge deck and a pier at milepost 0.5 of the Extension had become overextended, causing the eastbound bridge deck to drop several inches.
The repair involved jacking the structure back into place and installing blocking to support the bridge deck. The jacks used to lift the structure will remain in place to provide a redundant means of support.
