Leo J. Schaeffer III has more than 30 years of public administration experience with the New Jersey Turnpike Authority, where he has led large-scale operational, infrastructure, and strategic initiatives.  Appointed Deputy Executive Director of Operations in March 2026, Mr. Schaeffer oversees critical transportation systems, budgets and personnel supporting the nation’s busiest roadway network.  He holds an applied science degree and over 325 certifications which allow him to combine real-world government operations experience with a strong academic and professional foundation.  A retired Battalion Chief in a municipal public safety agency, he brings extensive emergency management experience, blending executive leadership with frontline crisis management expertise to drive efficiency, safety, and innovation.
